Nursing Assistant license Requirements

Following are the pre-requisites that are necessary before you obtain a CNA license.

Obtaining the Certified Nurse Aide License

If you posses all the above requirements, then you can apply for the license at the Nurse Aide Registry of your respective state. The steps involved for this process are:

Nursing Assistant License Transfer

When certified nursing assistants working in particular state decide to move to another states in the USA, they need a license transfer. The nursing aide may move to a different state due to personal or official reasons. Recognition of a license is possible only in the state where it was obtained. Therefore, it is mandatory to apply for transfer procedure in such situations. While getting the license transferred, you will have to check if the state you are applying for follows the reciprocity procedure. Reciprocity means the state you want to get transferred to will treat your current license equivalent to their state and will grant you permission to work in their region provided you complete certain steps required in the transfer procedure. In this case, the approvals from both the states is required. You need to get information about the license process in the state where you intent to get transfered. If you are relocating to New York, then you need to get complete details about the CNA license transfer process applicable in New York. Details regarding your social security number, educational proofs, examination scores, and background checks will be verified. This procedure may continue for two to three months.

However, if the state you are transferring to does not follow the reciprocity system, then you will have to appear for the state competency examination and obtain the certification and license. In some states, you will also be advised to undertake certain additional courses.

Nursing Assistant License Renewal

The license offered to you is not a permanent one. It should be renewed at regular intervals, so that it remains active and valid. Every state has their own validity period and it is the duty of the nursing assistant to renew it as and when it expires. In most of the states, it expires after two years, however in some states its validity period is one year. However, this procedure implies certain renewal fees as well. The application forms for renewal will be posted or will be mailed to you before it expires. However, in some cases, it may take some time, so it is your duty to get it renewed before it expires.

It is advisable to know information about the cost of the certified nursing license as it plays a vital role in the professional life of a certified nursing assistant. The CNA license cost, renewal, and transfer procedures are important things that you should be aware about, as license is an important document that you need to work as a nursing aide.
